Duet
15' performance + 55' video installation
DUET is a choreographic echo: a performance based on video-news footage of a violent event: a teenage suicide bomber stopped at and Israeli army checkpoint following instructions shouted from a distance to remove the bomb he is wearing and then his shirt and pants. This strange action in a no-man's land between life and death was filmed and released to the news media to be seen repeatedly worldwide. DUET echos the gestures of this young man, (gestures of fear, confusion, frustration, obedience, impatience), with soldiers replaced by a second performer and the TV camera replaced by an audience.
