En masse
En masse was a collaboration with choreographer and dancer Suzanne Miller. A movement work for 75 people which explored non-synchronized movement for a large group. A study in the dynamics of the crowd, transformed into a cross-disciplinary work for a large group (dancers and non-dancers) in performance. In the crowd personal privacy and individuality are exchanged for a freedom ensured by anonymity and non-responsibility. The unpredictable behavior of the crowd can ignite at any time and offers a level of spontanaity related to processes of art, dreams, delusions and various forms of automatic behavior. En masse is a movement work which meditates on this potential, at the same time resisting the control demanded by group synchronised choreography in favour of wandering, gathering and task-oriented movement.
